An idol is our own idea of God! This is why meditative reading of the Bible is so important – we are challenged with who God really is. While the church needs people of Noah’s calibre, such people cannot save the Church! More than great leaders we need Jesus to pour out His Spirit upon us in revival!

Devotion

* Lord God, please write Your word on our hearts today, that we might hear and obey.

“… That I may lay hold of the hearts of Israel, who are all estranged from me through their idols.”

What does God want from us?

HE WANTS OUR HEARTS.

Idolatry is clearly a heart-problem. One that God commands us to repent of, to turn to Him instead, and to continue to turn back to Him when we are tempted otherwise.

Because our God’s desire is that we His people and that He is our God!

How can we turn from idolatry? How can we ourselves and together repent and turn our hearts to the Lord?

Even the best of us cannot help, not one bit!

So how?

In Ezekiel we read the answer, both in chapter 11 and in chapter 36, God speaks,

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you.”

The answer is that we need God to give us new hearts, new spirits.

And He does this in Jesus, God in the Person of the Son.

And so Paul could say in 2 Corinthians 5,

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

We are able to choose to please God and reject idolatry, to go about His will – Because in Christ we are a new creation (no longer slaves to sin).

Hallelujah, what a Saviour!

* Gracious Father,

Please help us to put You in the right place in our lives, in our meetings together, in our families and everywhere You call us.

Thank You for Your HELP – You the Son come to save, You the Spirit poured out on us, our companion on this road.

Thank You!

Amen.
