Commissioning: Youth Worker

An Order for the Commissioning of a Youth Worker

Welcome.

Responsive Call to Worship (from Romans 12:6-11; 1 Cor 12:4-7)

Minister: We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.

If a person's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him lead diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. (Romans 12:6-11)

Minister: There are different gifts.

ALL: But it is the same Spirit who gives them.

Minister: Each one is given a gift by the Spirit.

ALL: To use it for the common good.

Prayer.

Scripture Reading: such as Romans 1:7b-17.

Words of Exhortation:

To the Appointee:

Dear fellow servant in Christ, be an example, therefore, in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit and in faith. Do not neglect the gift that God has entrusted to you. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved - a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. Be diligent in prayer, remembering that without Christ you can do nothing.

To the Congregation:

Dear friends in Christ, receive N....... as a fellow worker and servant of Jesus Christ. Support N....... in his Christian service and responsibility in the life of the church. Encourage N....... by your words and prayers because you are co-workers with him in the service of Christ and his kingdom.

Hymn such as "You servants of God, your Master proclaim" (Rejoice! 148)

Benediction and Three-Fold Amen.
